Redesign of mass-produced anonymous lampshade

NEW LIGHT POTTERY, Nara-based independent lighting studio, has designed a Shigaraki-yaki ceramic-made pendant lamp “soil.”
Based on Japanese traditional techniques called “Utsushi”, this pendant lamp was modeled after an anonymous German enamel pendant light and made of Shigaraki ware with the same shape. We can see a slight manufacturing distortion in the shape, because the designer wanted to add hand-made touch. Also, the matt-look surface is smooth enough to be maintained by wiping.
The flange cup that attaches to the ceiling is also made of Shigaraki ware. Two colour variations are available, nude (ivory) and black.
DETAIL
The surface has a matte texture and slight polished for maintenance by wiping.
The lampshade was made of Shigaraki ware referring the anonymous design of old workshop lamp.
The custom-made flange cup was made of Shigaraki ware as well.
The designer used ‘Urushi’ lacquer for the limited colour edition.
