A stool 'Like Something' is designed and manufactured by Kohtaro Mori of Mokkou Mori, a woodworker based in Yoshino, Nara. Only quarter-sawn Yoshino cedar with a straight grain is used for the stool, and the carefully finished Japanese plane Kanna surface is stunning. The abstract stool is intended to have an ambiguous shape that looks like something, and the asymmetrical leg design gives it a different look depending on the viewpoint. Designed to follow the body's curves, the seat has planed blade traces and the surface has a distinctive sheen. Two features make the user experience of the stool unique: first, the use of soft cedar wood, and second, the hand-planed texture, which is very different from the sandpaper finish of the furniture.
Smooth surface with visible hand-planing marks.
Kohtaro Mori's workshop ‘Mokkou Mori’ is located in Shimoichi town, Yoshino, Nara.
