Designing a bookshelf that accompanies the life you lead with books
It is said that the words "text" and "textile" have the same origin.
I felt an affinity with the way small elements come together to form a single thing, so I used the material of string throughout the design.
I like living with bookshelves.
Every time I look at them, I see something different. Reading the same book after a long time is a wonderful experience. When I want to get close to a deceased person, the bookshelf becomes a bridge.
However, it is surprisingly difficult to store books.
Even if you have a bookshelf that matches the amount of books in your collection, it will overflow when one more book is added. Even if you have a large bookshelf, you will feel anxious because you don't know when it will be filled.
To begin with, books come in many different sizes. Choosing the right shelves is difficult.
You want a bookshelf that can grow with you.
Tsuzuru is a bookshelf that grows with you.
When there are only a few books, you can attach the legs.
When you have more books, you can connect frames.
It can take any shape to suit your lifestyle.
The books can be freely laid out with the clasps that are threaded through the weave of the string.
Each frame is 45mm thick and can hold books on both sides.
When the frames are connected, the string hinges allow 360 degrees of angle adjustment. The frames are easy to connect, and there is no need for holes in the frames to connect them.
The books are supported by two types of strings, white and brown. The white one is an elastic cord that gently supports books of any thickness. The brown one is a non-stretchy cord that holds the book in place. Both types of strings are dye-free and do not transfer color to the book. The flat strap does not leave any bite marks on the book.
The clasp is easy to insert and difficult to remove. By threading it through the braid, the position of the clasp does not shift, and the hole through which it is threaded does not become loose.
The structure of the frame is made of mortise and tenon for strength.
