SPIRAL CHAIR by Yui Kitamura
Tokyo Metropolitan University | Department of Industrial Art | Faculty of System Design
In this graduation project, I tried to make chairs only with very simple work, rolling something up, so that everyone can do the same thing without professional knowledge of making chairs. I think it can help to create a new chair that provides a different valuable experience.
The act of rolling up something consists of two elements, an material and a way of, and these elements have more details. For example, the materials have different shapes, thickness, and hardness. I altered these elements' parameters to create various shapes and grope an interest form that makes use of its features and can be a chair. And I finally made them, Spiral chairs.
I used a long sponge rubber sheet. It is a sponge-like substance that is usually used as soundproof and buffer material. The spiral chairs can be improved more about its form, material, and the way to stick them together in order to be stronger and more comfortable. I'd like to keep working on this project if I can.
