“I told them, shut down your computer, don’t look at your computer, your desire, your future, everything on your computer, if you really want to see, see the real thing, real beauty, you have to go there by walking, go there and touch it and smell it, if you want want to create something, you need to have very excited emotion, not superficial imaging.”
—Yoji Yamamoto
Today we live in a world dominated by ocular-centrism- a culture where“vision” has higher privilege and ranking over the other senses. In modern times, vision has been strengthened by numerous technological inventions as the invention of the printing press, artificial illumination, photography. Furthermore, mobile technology has spread rapidly around the globe. An example of criticism of ocular-centrism is too much reliance on vision resulting in hearing, touch, especially sense of smell becoming increasingly insensitive, our imagination may weaken. We may need to proactively find ways to stimulate all our senses, thus exercising our emotions, empathy and imagination.
This Project, is aimed to counter act against ocular-centrism and try to stimulate the senses other than vision. Promises rich user experience, I decided to make a real space that can be seen and touched. As a way of expressing the concept, I used to hide the material, shape, and color of things in a "hidden" art form in order to limit visual information. I believe that, by using our body, and all our sensory system, only then are we able to feel the real beauty and full appreciation of architectural form and design!
