Koichi Futatsumata from KOICHI FUTATSUMATA STUDIO has designed a series of simple bracket lights with ball-shaped bulbs. When we asked about the development process, Futasumata said, "In retail shops and restaurants, downlights and spotlights are common, but such light is not always appropriate, especially in small spaces. I also felt the same way in residential design. On the other hand, many of the existing pendants, brackets and stand lights used for task lighting and accent lighting have a unique design, so I felt that there was less suitable fixture when I wanted anonymous light settings. If an industrial style is desired, we can install the batten holders on the wall, but that option is not sufficient. So I wanted to create a lighting fixture that would be positioned between architectural lighting and decorative lighting, and I have designed bespoke lighting fixtures for several projects. Now, fine-tuned products I designed will be available for the design and construction community."

In collaboration with lighting designer Tatsuki Nakamura of BRANCH LIGHTING DESIGN who we've been working with, the products were manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Lighting Sou.

As for the design, "First of all, we developed a type in which only the luminous part of the ball bulb is visible. Because we wanted to show the round shape of the bulb itself, and the product design became very minimal. We aimed to create a neutral fixture that became one of the basic architectural components, like a doorknob. Besides, to avoid displaying the socket height, we have embedded the socket part into the wall. Later, we also designed a product with a half-covered version based on the same concept. In both types, the bulbs can be easily replaced by the user."

This bracket lights are suitable for incandescent and LED ball-shaped bulbs and can be mounted on the wall and ceiling. It is also available in two sizes for 90mm and 50mm diameter bulbs, respectively. The designer did not give the product a name because a name promotes a specific image. The unpainted aluminium item is a prototype, and only the painted model will be available. Simultaneously, disc-shaped ceiling light with three LED bulbs in an acrylic cover was released.
