A store design for Japan-made furniture brand ‘XYL’ that offering children's furniture made of Japanese wood such as Japanese cypress and cedar. XYL make their products from FSC-certified wood that proves that they are processed from the responsibly managed forests. Then the designer, Tonerico: Inc., asked to use FSC certified timber to get FSC certificate for the store by itself.
Under the theme of " Indelible Scenes of Childhood," space was created to inspire curiosity that visitors wanted to enter the narrow space. For the interior, by placing vertical arch-shaped ‘Tenryu’ cedar panel, grown in Shizuoka Prefecture, in 525mm spacing, they created a space like a tunnel and customers could see through the long tunnel from outside.
As a result of the fit-out made of FSC certified materials, this Kichijoji store received FSC partial project certification. In the following year, XYL Nagoya store, designed by TONERICO: INC., received FSC full project certification.
