SOIL CAFE by Moeko Takada

What kind of space should people make pottery more attractive?
To find this answer, I visited "成井窯" (= a kiln made by my grandfather in Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture) and Japanese pottery galleries.
And I designed this cafe and made materials while concentrating on "soil".
■ Location: Omotesando
(right across from KOFFEE MAMEYA)
[A]...Slope of soil
When people descend the slope of the soil and enter the entrance, they can enter a space completely covered with soil.
[B]...Gallery space
This is a place where people's "hands" and pottery face each other.
In a closed soil cave, touch and face pottery born from the same soil.
[C]...Cafe space
This is a place where you can actually have a conversation while drinking tea or coffee with the pottery.
■ Material
(space design around the pottery)
I used Mashiko's clay, glaze, broken pottery, etc. and baked it in a climbing kiln.
[1]... 9 tiles made of the same material soil
These tiles were baked in a climbing kiln.
[2]... Cracked soil tiles
This crack was formed when it was baked in a kiln.
[3]... Large tiles made from cement and broken pottery
[4]... Price tag made of soil
It made in the same way as the mug handle
[5]... Large tile made of Mashiko soil
[6]... Curved wire
This wire is used in “成井窯” to make potteries.
